Có dịp nghe lại một bài hát trong vở nhạc kịch Les Misérables, Những kẻ khốn cùng, dựa trên một tác phẩm của văn hào Victor Hugo.  Bài hát có tựa là Empty Chairs at Empty Tables, nói về sự mất mát và tiếc nuối của một nhân vật trong truyện, khi anh đứng nhìn những chiếc ghế trống nơi những chiếc bàn vắng, mà ngày trước các bạn mình đã ngồi ca hát với nhau và mơ tưởng đến chuyện tương lai…

Bài hát làm chợt nhớ đến những câu thơ của cụ Nguyễn Công Trứ

Chỗ ta đang ngồi đây, ngày xưa cổ nhân cũng đã từng ngồi trên chỗ ta đang ngồi, và ngàn muôn năm sau cũng sẽ có người đến ngồi chỗ ấy. 

Trong cuộc sống có lẽ đó chỉ là một sự tiếp nối, hơn là một sự mất mát…  Ai hay hát mà ai hay nghe hát…
